About Liberia
Republic of Liberia was founded in 1847 by freed American slaves. The mottto was "The love of liberty brought us here".
In 1989 a 14-year civil war started, a cruel war that affected every Liberian, and in 2014 Liberia was hit by ebola. The country has a population slightly above 4 million. In Liberia there are many tribes with different tribal languages. Official language is English. Today the country is under construction and had two democratic elections. Liberia was proud to have Africa's first female president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. who is also a Noble prize winner.
